Monica Reig

Mònica Reig studied Chemical Processes Engineering at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), where she obtained her PhD degree in 2016 (Cum Laude and awarded as the top PhD thesis submitted in 2016 in the Industrial Engineering field from UPC). Since 2023, she has been working as a Lecturer Professor at the Resource Recovery and Environmental Management (R2EM) group of the Chemical Department of the UPC (Spain).
Her research mainly focuses on resource recovery, valorisation and added-value products extraction by membrane techniques (e.g., electrodialysis, nanofiltration, membrane contactors) from wastewater and agro-waste residues. She has been involved in 16 competitive projects (9 nationally and 7 European funded) and 13 non-competitive projects/R&D contracts with several companies (e.g. Solvay Ibérica, S.L, IEM Research, ATLL, Archroma), being the principal investigator in 4 of them.
She has published over 65 research papers (more than 80% published in Q1 journals) and received more than 2000 citations (H-index 28). Moreover, she published 6 book chapters and presented around 100 works at international conferences (45% of them as oral presentations). Besides, she received 4 competitive grants from the Spanish Ministry, and she holds a Spanish patent, extended to Europe. Recently, she took part in the Early Career Editorial Board 2025–26 from the Separation and Purification Technology Journal.
